For Pete's Sake

Travis Kelce praised Chiefs fans during postgame interview on ESPN

ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt had one player in mind for his postgame interview Monday night on “SportsCenter.”

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Kelce obliged and took a seat at the outdoor ESPN set at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Van Pelt wanted to know what Kelce thought about his career on a night when he tied the Chiefs franchise record for touchdowns scored.

The cheering Chiefs fans who watched the interview are a big reason why Kelce loves what he does.

“Look at this right here, man. I just cherish these moments,” Kelce said. “Coming out here, being able to play in front of the Chiefs Kingdom and at Arrowhead. We were talking about it during the break. This place is special.”

“It really is,” Van Pelt said.

“And I love it here,” Kelce said. “And you know, in terms of the historical stuff, I’m still looking at the next game and looking at the next catch and trying to get better every single day. So I think I’ll look back at it and appreciate it.”

Kelce, who turned 36 earlier this month, had six catches for a game-high 99 receiving yards Monday in the Chiefs’ 28-7 win over the Commanders.

No decision has been made on whether Kelce will return to the Chiefs in 2026 because he’s enjoying the here and now.

“I’m just an old lucky dog just still able to do this thing,” Kelce said. “I’m putting on the pads like I’m 15 years old again, man, and I’m loving every single bit of it.”

Van Pelt then showed a Chiefs fan who had body paint with a No. 87 jersey, and Kelce absolutely loved it.

When the interview ended, Kelce said to Chiefs fans: “Kingdom, baby, let’s roll!” He then signed autographs for the fans who had stuck around to watch him.

The full Kelce interview aired on ESPN.
