For Pete's Sake

Jason Kelce rails against late-starting games, including ‘Monday Night Football’

Did you watch both ends of the “Monday Night Football” doubleheader the other day?

You couldn’t be blamed for heading to bed before the end of the Seahawks’ 27-19 win over the Texans in Seattle. That game started at 9:05 p.m. in Kansas City and didn’t end until half-past midnight.

On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, which was released Wednesday, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce asked his big brother, Jason, if he stayed up for the game.

This was another example of a little brother egging on his sibling. Travis Kelce certainly knows Jason is now an analyst for ESPN, which broadcast the Seahawks-Texans game.

“I was ... there, Travis,” an animated Jason said. “I did the halftime from Detroit.”

The first game Monday was the Lions-Buccaneers contest in Detroit. Jason Kelce then made an impassioned plea for starting sporting events at a reasonable time.

“Listen, and I don’t feel this way just for football, we had a Phillies playoff game, it was a ... playoff game that started 9 p.m. on (the) East Coast,” Jason Kelce said. “It should be against the rules.

“Eight o’clock Eastern is the latest a big sporting prime-time or playoff game should start. If you want to do a regular-season basketball game, regular-season baseball game that nobody’s tuning into … on the East Coast for a West Coast game, you can do it. But a ... prime-time game shouldn’t be started past 8 p.m. Eastern Time.”

Seems reasonable, right?
