Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes combined to set a Chiefs franchise record Sunday
We are living in the golden age of Chiefs football.
The Chiefs’ 31-0 blowout win over the Raiders on Sunday was the 93rd regular-season victory of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ career. As legendary broadcaster Jim Nantz noted during CBS Sports’ coverage, that set a Chiefs franchise record.
Mahomes and Andy Reid had been tied with Pro Football Hall of Famers Len Dawson and Hank Stram for the most coach-quarterback victories in Chiefs history. Stram and Dawson had 92 from 1962-74.

That’s a 30
The Chiefs had the same number of first downs as the Raiders ran plays on Sunday: 30. Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice noted that’s the fewest plays a team has run in a game since at least 2002.
Aaron Schatz reported it was the second-fewest plays in a game since 1978.
Just 3
Kurtis Seaboldt of WHB (810 AM) said the Chiefs are the 13th team since the merger to hold their opponent to three first downs or fewer. The three first downs were the fewest the Chiefs have allowed in a game.
A first in Chiefs history
The Chiefs had touchdown drives of 92 yards, 84 yards and 94 yards to open the game, and the CBS Sports broadcast said that had never happened before in Chiefs history.
CBS also noted that Mahomes is the only quarterback since 2000 with 200 pass yards and three passing touchdowns on the first three drives of a game.
First shutout
Sunday’s game was the 427th regular-season contest coached by Andy Reid (with the Chiefs and Eagles).
Despite his amazing career, Reid until Sunday had never been on the sideline for a regular-season game in which his team got a shutout victory — although he and the Chiefs did shut out the Texans in a 2015 playoff game at Houston.
