Talk about impeccable timing.

Late last week, NFL Films released a feature on Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Days later, the Chiefs held the Raiders to three first downs and 95 yards of offense in a 31-0 beat down.

It was a masterpiece from Spagnuolo and the defense.

The 11-minute feature from NFL Films gives a behind-the-scenes look at Spagnuolo’s life in football. That includes his time as a college coach, his one-time love of the New England Patriots and long history with head coach Andy Reid.

The video also shows why Spagnuolo wanted badly to help Chiefs coach Andy Reid win a Super Bowl.

And it also reveals how Spagnuolo’s career could have gone in a different direction. When they were both with the Eagles, Reid blocked Spagnuolo from interviewing for the Vikings defensive coordinator position in 2006. A year later, Spags was allowed to talk with the Giants, who hired him and later won Super Bowl XLII.

But perhaps the best part is a focus on Spagnuolo’s Boston accent.

“They get on him a little bit about it,” coach Andy Reid says in the feature. “We all get on him about it. He’s thick.”

Chiefs defensive back Trent McDuffie said the accent makes getting yelled at easier to take.

“Honestly, his accent makes him 10 times even funnier,” McDuffie says. “When you’re getting cussed at just on the regular it’s like, ‘OK, I get it.’ But when you get that thick accent like you hear from Spags, some people may not like it, but I literally just laugh.”

This is a fun feature that Chiefs fans will like.
