For Pete's Sake

A Kansas City native had one of the Jaguars’ biggest plays against the Chiefs

There apparently were some folks in Kansas City who were thrilled to see Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd’s 99-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Chiefs.

Lloyd picked off a Patrick Mahomes pass and rumbled the other way for a touchdown that may have been the biggest difference in the contest that had featured multiple game-changing plays.

Lloyd played at Utah and went to high school in Southern California. But one of the questions Lloyd was asked after the game was about his birthplace.

“Born in Kansas City, yep,” Lloyd told reporters.

Lloyd was asked what it meant to beat the Chiefs, and that’s when we learned maybe not everyone in KC was upset with his pick-six.

“Well, I had some family members hit me up and they’re like, ‘Hey, you’ve got to get the job done,’” Lloyd told reporters. “They didn’t say that exactly. It was a little more explicit. But they were like, ‘Yeah, you’ve got to get the job done.’ I think that was definitely — it was a special game just because we were able to find a way to win.

“Obviously, Kansas City, they’ve been the team to beat for the last, I don’t know how many years, and they’re still a great team. For us to win this on ‘Monday Night Football’ in front of the nation at home, big win for this organization, but it’s still early in the season. We’ve got to keep finding ways to improve and grow.”
