  • Chiefs lost 31-28 in Jacksonville after a late sequence of turnovers and penalties.
  • A tipped pass should have been Bolton’s interception; Tranquill contact forced a drop.
  • That missed pick erased a two-score swing and shifted game momentum to Jacksonville.

In the end, it was an ugly 31-28 loss for Chiefs during their “Monday Night Football” game against the Jaguars at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

There were a number of turning points that went against the Chiefs.

There was the Jaguars’ 99-yard pick-six, the wild Trevor Lawrence winning touchdown run when he fell after taking the snap, and 13 Chiefs penalties for 109 yards.

But in the second quarter, it seemed like everything was going well for the Chiefs. Kansas City had touchdown drives of 72 yards and 97 yards as they took a 14-0 lead.

The latter came after Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton knocked the ball from Lawrence inches from the goal line, and Kansas City recovered. They Chiefs needed just five plays to go 97 yards for the TD.

After the Chiefs went up 14-0, Jacksonville responded with a touchdown drive that was aided by one of the most baffling Chiefs defensive plays of the season.

Lawrence threw a long pass that went off the hands of Jaguars receiver Tim Patrick, then deflected off Chiefs defensive back Trent McDuffie. The ball popped up in the air and Bolton was there to grab it, except he was hit by teammate Drue Tranquill.

Bolton missed the interception, and then so did Tranquill. This should have been an interception and one that would have given the Chiefs the ball with a two-score lead. Instead, multiple Chiefs missed a chance at a pick, and the Jaguars scored a touchdown after given the unlikely reprieve.
