For Pete's Sake

Nate Bargatze met with Chiefs’ Andy Reid and Creed Humphrey in KC

By now, the Chiefs equipment staff probably is accustomed to making jerseys for people who are not on the team.

With the Chiefs being the most popular team in the nation’s most popular sport, celebrities like to hobnob with the players and coaches. But last week, the equipment staff was asked to do something unusual.

Could you make two Bargatze jerseys?

That’d be the hottest comedian in the country, Nate Bargatze. His popularity has soared in the last five years, as he’s hosted the Emmy Awards, “Saturday Night Live” and his own Christmas variety show.

Bargatze played at the Midland Theater in 2017 and was part of the “Big Slick” show in 2019. Both performances mostly flew under the radar, except among his biggest fans.

Times have changed. Bargatze’s popularity has soared, and he had shows at the T-Mobile Center on Friday and Saturday, and it was there that he met with Chiefs coach Andy Reid and his wife, Tammy.

Chiefs center Creed Humphrey and his girlfriend, Ana Demmer. Both brought a custom-made Bargatze Chiefs jersey.

And Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet also met with Bargatze and the Chiefs contingent backstage at the T-Mobile Center. Demmer shared photos on her Instagram account.

“(A) Chiefs jersey seemed like a great idea until Mrs. Reid came asking me why the equipment staff was making two Bargatze jerseys last week,” Demmer wrote.

While in Kansas City, Bargatze also dined at the 1587 Prime steakhouse, which is co-owned by Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Bargatze shared some photos from his time in Kansas City, and it appears he also got to wear Reid’s three Super Bowl rings.
