Here is who national experts predict will win KC Chiefs at NY Giants game
The Chiefs have an 0-2 record and there are some who believe the team is skating on thin ice.
Giants outside linebacker Brian Burns isn’t buying it.
“They’re the same team,” Burns told the New York Post. “They’re just having their early beginning-of-the-year struggles. Nothing different, nothing changed. Fifteen is still back there.”
That would be Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who will be hoping to guide Kansas City to its first win since the AFC Championship Game. The Chiefs face the Giants, who also are 0-2, on “Sunday Night Football.” Kickoff is at 7:20 p.m. and the game will air on KSHB (Ch. 41) in Kansas City and KSN (Ch. 3) in Wichita.
Here is who 61 national experts are picking to win the game.
A 31-24 Chiefs victory is the pick for the Sporting News’ Bill Bender. Here is a snippet of his story: “Russell Wilson is coming off a 450-yard, three-TD performance in the 40-37 loss to the Cowboys. Kansas City finally gets back on track here – but don’t be surprised if it is yet another one-score game.”
A 23-20 Chiefs win is the prediction from the Arizona Republic’s Jeremy Cluff. Here is what he wrote: “We did not see an 0-2 start coming for the Chiefs, who have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL so far this season. An 0-3 start would be absolutely shocking for Kansas City.”
A 30-17 Chiefs victory is the prediction from the Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi. This is from his story: “Patrick Mahomes has the first three-game losing streak in his career and plenty of folks are proclaiming the end of Kansas City’s dynasty. Same people did that to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots several times before he led them to another three Super Bowls. Russell Wilson showed he indeed can still play last week, Malik Nabers is a stud and New York’s defensive line is disruptive.”
The Chiefs are the choice for all eight writers at CBS Sports: Pete Prisco, Ryan Wilson, Jamey Eisenberg, Cody Benjamin, Jared Dubin, John Breech, Tyler Sullivan and Dave Richard. Prisco predicts a 20-17 score. Here is part of his story: “The Chiefs limp into this game at 0-2 with problems on offense. The Giants are 0-2, but at least they showed some life on offense against Dallas. That ends here.”
The Chiefs are the choice for the five writers at NFL.com: Ali Bhanpuri (24-17 final score), Brooke Cersosimo (24-19), Dan Parr (24-20), Gennaro Filice (27-19) and Tom Blair (24-21). This is a snippet of what Bhanpuri wrote: “This game ultimately comes down to trust. Do I believe Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes will make enough mid-week adjustments to overcome the offense’s lingering deficiencies (protection, unreliable pass catchers, ineffective backfield) against a flawed-but-front-heavy Giants defense? Or, do I think Russell Wilson can repeat his vintage performance from Week 2 (putting Week 1’s stinker firmly in the rearview) against a still-stingy Steve Spagnuolo defense? Yeah, I’m gonna go with Big Red, No. 15 and Spags in this one.”
The Chiefs are the pick for 10 of 11 ESPN experts: Stephania Bell, Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Jeremy Fowler, Dan Graziano, Pamela Maldonado, Moses Moody, Lindsey Thiry, Jason Reid and Seth Wickersham. Going with the Giants is Kalyn Kahler.
Taking the Chiefs are five of the six USA Today writers: Jarrett Bell (27-24 final score), Chris Bumbaca (23-21), Nate Davis (31-23), Tyler Dragon (27-18) and Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (28-17). Going with the Giants is Nick Brinkerhoff (24-20).
Picking the Chiefs are five of six Sports Illustrated writers: John Pluym, Gilberto Manzano, Albert Breer, Mitch Goldich and Matt Verderame. Taking the Giants is Conor Orr.
All 10 NFL Network analysts see the Chiefs prevailing.
A Chiefs win is the call from both Pro Football Talk writers. Mike Florio sees a 34-17 final score, while Chris Simms predicted it would be 24-17.
The Chiefs will win, say all 10 Dallas Morning-News members: Tim Cowlishaw, Joey Hayden,Joseph Hoyt, Dana Larson, Damon Marx, Craig Miller, Abraham Nudelstejer, Newy Scruggs, Calvin Watkins and Kevin Sherrington.
