This slow-motion video of Patrick Mahomes’ parallel pass is incredible
Patrick Mahomes will turn 30 years old next week, and he may not be quite as spry as when he first became the Chiefs starting quarterback in 2018, he still manages to amaze.
In the Chiefs’ 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, Mahomes rushed for 57 yards and passed for another 258 with a touchdown throw and no interceptions.
Mahomes completed 24 of 39 passes, and one of those throws in particular stood out. It was Mahomes’ fourth-quarter pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster. It was third-and-5 at the Chiefs’ 40-yard line. The completion went for 12 yards.
And for those in the future who will one day read that and move on without a second thought, I’m sorry. They won’t realize the absurdity of the throw.
Mahomes was tripped up by the Chargers’ Derwin James. While parallel to the ground, Mahomes managed to flip the ball over three Chargers defenders to Smith-Schuster. The ball traveled just 7 yards in the air, but holy cow, it was incredible.
Here’s how the NFL Network’s Bryan Baldinger described it: “Mahomes just makes you watch. He doesn’t get past the line of scrimmage, and he does the flip on the dive to JuJu for the first down. This is just Mahomes. Anything that he does, you have to watch. That’s just an amazing play in traffic. Look at that throw.“
Baldinger shared a slow-motion video with two angles of the throw.
NFL analyst Warren Sharp also shared a slow-mo look at the pass, and this is incredible.
That completion kept alive the drive, and it ended with Mahomes completing a more traditional 37-yard touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce.
