For Pete's Sake

Brazilian fans say Chiefs’ Andy Reid looks like cartoon character from 80 years ago

Once upon a time, “Woody Woodpecker” was a hugely popular cartoon series, but you don’t see it much these days.

It apparently still has a following in Brazil. At least that’s what I gleaned from social media Thursday. Because when the Chiefs landed in that country, coach Andy Reid heard some cries of “Leoncio.”

That name may not ring a bell with many people in the United States, but in Brazil that’s the Portuguese name for Wally Walrus, who was a character on “Woody Woodpecker” starting in the 1940s and continuing for decades.

Ah, the walrus.

Here is a sample of what fans were saying on X, and you can judge for yourself if the name fits.
