Chiefs’ Trey Smith obliterated two Bears defensive players on one play Friday
Chiefs guard Trey Smith was interviewed by Chicago media members during Super Bowl LIX Opening Night in New Orleans, as the Windy City hoped he might be headed to the Bears in the offseason.
Smith was seen by many pundits as a player the Chiefs could trade if they were unable to work out a contract extension.
Fortunately for the Chiefs, they signed Smith to a four-year, $94 million contract extension in July. Bears fans got a look at what might have been during Friday night’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
In the first quarter, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes worked a bit of magic but missed out on a touchdown when Kareem Hunt couldn’t corral a ball in the end zone.
While that play didn’t end with a touchdown, it did highlight why Smith is so great. He obliterated two Bears defensive players on that one play.
“It feels good trying to keep Pat clean,” Smith said in a sideline interview during the broadcast. “I got in his way a little bit, so I’ve got to be better there but it’s a good feeling to get out here and play some football before the best fans in the NFL.”
