For Pete's Sake

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes channeled Michael Jordan with subtle move

After the United States won the men’s basketball gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, the players wore warm-up suits to the podium.

This presented a potential problem for Michael Jordan, whose Air Jordan shoes had been massively popular for Nike. The players were issued Reebok branded gear.

Jordan worked around the branding issue. He unzipped the jacket so it covered the Reebok logo. He then draped an American flag over his shoulder to ensure no one would see that logo.

A similar situation played out Saturday at CPKC Stadium for the Current’s match against Orlando. This time, however, it was the Nike logo that was covered.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, who are Current co-owners, brought their kids to the game. Mahomes donned a Current jersey for the match, but he made one alteration that many people may have missed.

Nike makes the Current’s jerseys, and Mahomes famously has a deal with Adidas. And, so, he used a piece of tape to hide the Nike swoosh.
