Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sat down in a director’s chair Monday for a chat on the “Up & Adams” show, but he didn’t expect he’d have to take evasive measures at one point.

As Adams was asking Mahomes about the AFC West race, a sizable insect took aim at the three-time Super Bowl champion’s face.

“First off, you saw that bug and that quest in its eyes,” Mahomes joked.

Adams quipped: “Evasive, as always.”

Mahomes then talked about the Chiefs’ nine straight division titles. That includes seven with Mahomes under center.

“It’s never easy. Our division has always been tough,” Mahomes said. “We’ve just done a good job of being able to win it. But we always feel like our division is tough and that’s where we start.”

The AFC West has some noteworthy coach/quarterback combinations starting with the Chiefs’ Andy Reid and Mahomes. The Chargers have Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert, while the Broncos boast Sean Payton and Bo Nix.

“Obviously, a lot of young, really good quarterbacks. You add Geno Smith to the picture as well, another great quarterback,” Mahomes said. “And then with the coaches we’re going up against, some legendary, Hall of Fame coaches. But we believe we have the best coach and we believe if we take care of business and handle things the right way, we can find a way to win the division.

“And I believe if we win our division, we’ll be in line to get that home playoff game and be able to play in the playoffs at Arrowhead and find a way to get to San Francisco and the Super Bowl.”
