Royals’ Maikel Garcia did a bat flip after drawing a walk against Toronto
When he faced Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia in the third inning of Sunday’s game in Toronto, Blue Jays stater Chris Bassitt got ahead early in the count.
It was a 1-2 count when Bassitt threw a sinker in on the hands of Garcia, who spun away from the plate. Bassitt’s next pitch was another sinker and this one was up and in to Garcia.
Bassitt then stepped off the rubber before throwing a sweeper that was outside. Garcia drew a walk, and seemed a bit miffed, perhaps because a couple of pitches nearly hit him, so he did a bat flip.
That led FanDuel Sports Kansas City’s Ryan Lefebvre to say to analyst Rex Hudler: “I’ve been doing this a long time. Hud, so have you. I don’t ever remember a bat flip on a walk.”
It wasn’t the first time Garcia has flipped his bat following a walk this season, but this one seemed a little more, um, animated than others.
It was a fun moment from the Royals’ entertaining 7-4 win in 10 innings over the Blue Jays.
