Chiefs rookie Josh Simmons’ camp fight is a good sign, says former Pro Bowl guard
When you are teammates with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, there is just no way that all eyes are going to be on you during the entirety of training camp.
But there has been quite a bit of interest in left tackle Josh Simmons, who was selected by the Chiefs in the first round of the NFL Draft earlier this year. The Chiefs haven’t had anyone lock down that position for more than a season since Eric Fisher.
Now, however, many observers believe the Chiefs may have their left tackle locked down for the foreseeable future.
Simmons has impressed at camp, and one former Super Bowl champion defensive end has liked what he’s seen. And former Bears guard Kyle Long also believes Tuesday’s fight at training camp only makes Simmons more appealing.
“I knew this about Josh Simmons based on his tape, but to see him throw hands solidified my take that he’s gonna be a really good pro,” Long wrote on X. “Can’t teach that kind of twitch”
Simmons threw a punch at defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte, a third-round selection in April’s NFL Draft. Gillotte had pulled off Simmons’ helmet.
Long, who was with the Chiefs but didn’t play because of an injury in 2021, made three Pro Bowl appearances with the Bears. Getting a stamp of approval from Long seems to be a good sign for Chiefs fans about Simmons’ future.
