For Pete's Sake

Vinnie Pasquantino took a playful jab at Adam Frazier, who is returning to Royals

Perhaps one day Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino will take part in the All-Star Game Home Run Derby.

But even if he doesn’t, let’s hope he live-tweets the event every single year going forward.

During the Home Run Derby on Monday, Pasquantino took hilarious but playful jabs at other players, himself, the Derby format and a former player. The latter was Adam Frazier, who played for the Royals in 2024 before signing last offseason with the Pirates.

But a reunion is happening. The Royals announced Wednesday they acquired Frazier from Pittsburgh in exchange for infielder Cam Devanney. Last week, Devanney was promoted from Triple-A Omaha but he never appeared in a game with the Royals.

Frazier, who has played 10 MLB seasons, is a career .263 hitter. This season, he has a .255 average with three home runs, 21 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 78 games with Pittsburgh. He’s batting .289 with runners in scoring position, a situation that has been the Royals’ Achilles’ heel this season.

With the Royals last year, Frazier played both corner outfield positions, along with first, second and third base. Frazier, 33, batted .202 with 10 doubles and four homers in 104 games with KC.

In the ALDS loss to the Yankees, Frazier was one for three with a run scored.

Did Pasquantino know the Royals would be bringing back Frazier? Possibly.

On Monday night, X user Mike Ferrin suggested Major League Baseball come up with a “Good Piece of Hitting” Derby. Ferrin wrote it would be “just guys punching the ball the other way through the infield.”

Pasquantino’s response: “The Adam Frazier Derby.” The post had nearly a half-million views.

That’ll give Pasquantino and Frazier something to laugh about when they see each other Friday at LoanDepot Park in Miami.
