Patrick Mahomes, Creed Humphrey had fun reactions to Trey Smith’s new Chiefs deal
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led a league-best seven game-winning drives in the 2024 season, so he knows a little something about beating the clock.
So does general manager Brett Veach.
With just hours to spare before an NFL-mandated deadline, the Chiefs reached agreement Tuesday with guard Trey Smith on a long-term deal.
Smith, 26, is in the prime of his career and was ranked fourth among all NFL interior offensive linemen in ESPN’s survey recent of coaches, executives and scouts.
It’s no wonder that Mahomes was thrilled with the news that one of the Chiefs’ best offensive linemen would be sticking around for years to come.
After news of the deal became public knowledge, Mahomes shared a single emoji post on his X account. It was a smiling face.
Mahomes’ excitement was secondary only to Smith’s best friend on the Chiefs: center Creed Humphrey.
When Smith was on the New Heights podcast last month, he was asked who he would pick to be his tag-team pro wrestling partner.
“Without a doubt, without fault, without question: Creed Humphrey,” Smith said.
Smith said their name would be “Ebony and Ivory,” which was a 1980s song by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney.
With that in mind, Humphrey’s post on X about Smith’s new contract was perfect.
Fellow Chiefs guard Kingsley Suamataia shared this “Beavis and Butt-Head” meme.
Here is what Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill shared on X.
Former Chiefs safety Justin Reid also was fired up about the news. He wrote on X: “Big money!”
