Cubs fans get a Twitter lesson on the power of Royals fans
No doubt about it. Anthony Rizzo’s catch in the Cubs’ game Wednesday night was amazing.
Rizzo jumped on the tarp, balanced himself there and made a catch before falling into the stands.
ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight” took to Twitter on Thursday to ask if that was the top “Web Gem” and if it should supplant the Omar Infante-Alcides Escobar flip for a 4-6-3 putout against the Indians last month.
Time to vote for reigning #WebGem! RT for Infante & Escobar flip up-the-middle Fav for Rizzo going into the crowd http://t.co/GX7YFGjz9d
— Baseball Tonight (@BBTN) August 13, 2015Not surprisingly, the Infante-Escobar play was winning the vote as of noon. Cubs fans couldn’t believe it.
@BBTN how is rizzo down that's bull
— Dylan (@dd68943) August 13, 2015@BBTN @Caleb_Butler11 this is the BEST web gem there is. No one person can jump up on there and land without gettin hurt.
— Krystie Lubek (@LubekKrystie) August 13, 2015@BBTN #WebGem Rizzo hands down
— Jon & Anita Rinehart (@JonandAnita134) August 13, 2015@BBTN @ARizzo44 Infante and Escobar's play was amazing! But our boy jumping into the stands should win! #BleedCubbieBlue
— Jake Hibbert (@CubbiesRule722) August 13, 2015But there was one theory as to why the vote wasn’t going Rizzo’s way:
@LubekKrystie @BBTN I know but the Royals fan base is too strong
— Caleb Butler (@Caleb_Butler11) August 13, 2015That led to a response from Royals’ fans:
@Caleb_Butler11 @LubekKrystie @BBTN are you kidding me? You think the royals have a bigger fan base that the Cubs??
— MIKE (@MIKEndEMILY) August 13, 2015@SunnyCascade @MIKEndEMILY @Cubskickass100 @Caleb_Butler11 @LubekKrystie @BBTN not bigger just better
— ROYALS NATION (@KcRoyalsFans) August 13, 2015Ah, you can’t beat fun on Twitter.
