Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew visited a cattle farm on Thursday
You could say Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew is a free spirit, or perhaps he just has a zest for life that most people don’t share.
For example, when Minshew was with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, he lived in a bus for a while. And yeah, it was by choice. He would sometimes park the bus at a gym. Other times, it was outside the Eagles practice facility. Or, well, anywhere else he felt like parking.
Following the 2019 season, Minshew drove an RV from Jacksonville to Los Angeles. On the way, he hunted, hiked in the Grand Canyon and flew in an F-16 Falcon.
After he signed with the Chiefs in March, I asked Minshew if there was anything off the beaten path he wanted to do in Kansas City.
“Man, honestly, I’d love to learn about some cattle farming, if I have a chance,” Minshew said. “I know there’s probably a lot of that going on. That’s something I’d like to do down the road. I’m always a big fan of some labor like that.
“So if there’s a chance to do something like that, it’s a great opportunity to learn. But I’ve got plenty of football to learn, plenty of stuff in the building to get better at. And I think it’s going to take up a lot of my time, and I’m just so fired up for it.”
Fortunately for cattle-farming enthusiasts like Minshew, there are plenty of opportunities to see what happens with that particular profession in both Missouri and Kansas.
Minshew, who also has played for the Jaguars, Colts and Raiders in his six-season career, finally got his chance to investigate his latest non-football pursuit.
After the Chiefs’ Organized Team Activities practice on Thursday, Minshew met with the media and was asked what he thought of Kansas City.
“Honestly, outside of this, I’ve been pretty chill,” Minshew said. “Kind of just hanging at the house. But it’s good.”
That drew laughs from the media. Minshew was then asked if he had made it to a cattle farm yet.
“I’m actually going today,” Minshew said. “I’m pretty fired up.”
Unfortunately, Minshew is not as active on Instagram as he once was, because it would be fun to see photos of his time on the ranch.
