Whit Merrifield used Jac Caglianone to troll former Royals teammate Brady Singer

When they were Royals teammates, Whit Merrifield and Brady Singer were like brothers. That is to say, Merrifield was like a big brother who loved to torment his younger sibling.

And while they are no longer in Kansas City, Merrifield can’t help himself. There are times when he still loves needling Singer, who is now with the Cincinnati Reds.

Just such an opportunity arose for Merrifield when the Royals announced they were promoting top prospect Jac Caglianone from Triple-A Omaha earlier this week.

Because of Caglianone’s incredible feats of strength as a hitter, it can be easy to forget that he was a two-way player for the Florida Gators. The Royals chose to have Caglianone focus on hitting this season, and it’s why he is now with the big-league club.

But Major League Baseball shared a video earlier this week on social media of Caglianone highlights as a pitcher in college.

Merrifield saw that and added his own commentary: “This guy is the best Florida Gator pitcher KC has ever drafted bar none.”

There is a 0% chance that Merrifield didn’t know Singer was drafted by the Royals out of the University of Florida. It was a funny message.
