For Pete's Sake

Jac Caglianone’s final Triple-A home run included prophetic moment from announcer

This was broadcast magic.

During the Omaha Storm Chasers’ game Friday night against the St. Paul Saints, a broadcaster noted the buzz surrounding Jac Caglianone, who was the Royals’ first-round pick in last year’s MLB Draft.

Caglianone was promoted two weeks ago to Omaha, which is the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate, and he’s been on a roll.

That’s what led Omaha broadcaster Nicholas Badders to mention this Friday night when Caglianone stepped to the plate for the first time: “Everyone knows they could see something spectacular when he swings the bat.”

Guess what happened next? Yep, Caglianone went deep again, crushing a 442-foot home run. The ball off his bat was traveling 108 mph.

Take a look (and listen to Badders).

We didn’t know it at the time, but that was Caglianone’s final home run at Triple-A Omaha, as he’s being called up by the Royals.

In 12 games with the Storm Chasers, Caglianone batted .319 with an absurd 1.093 OPS and six home runs.
