Five things you might not know about KC Chiefs’ historic 2025 schedule
The Chiefs won’t start the 2025 season for nearly four months, but we already know they will make history.
That’s based on their schedule, which was released Thursday night.
There’s more about that in these five things that you might not know about the Chiefs’ 2025 schedule.
1. Thanksgiving rematch
The Chiefs will travel to Texas to face the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, but it won’t be the first time the teams have met on Turkey Day.
Dallas defeated the Chiefs 24-12 that day, even though Troy Aikman was held to 192 yards passing and Emmitt Smith rushed for only 56 yards.
It was a marquee game for the NFL as the Chiefs and Cowboys both finished the day with a 10-2 record.
2. No. 30 for Mahomes
That Thanksgiving game was played at Texas Stadium, but the Cowboys now call AT&T Stadium their home.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has started in the other 29 NFL stadiums, but he’ll officially play in every league stadium when KC takes on the Cowboys that day.
3. Bring on the Colts
Mahomes has defeated all 31 teams during his career, but oddly he has yet to beat the Colts during the regular season.
One caveat: Mahomes’ first career playoff victory was against Indianapolis but he’s 0-2 against the Colts in the regular season.
The Colts come to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Nov. 23, and Mahomes will have a chance to get a regular-season win against all 31 teams on that day.
4. International record
The Chiefs kick off their quest to be the second team in NFL history to make it to four straight Super Bowls with a game in São Paulo.
As former NFL Network reporter James Palmer noted, that game in Brazil will mark the fourth different international country in which the Chiefs will play a game in their history. The others are Germany, England and Mexico.
No other NFL team has played in four international countries.
5. Prime time record
NFL writer Warren Sharp noted the Chiefs are the first team in NFL history to have five prime-time games scheduled in the first eight weeks of the season.
Here’s the breakdown:
Week 1: Chargers in Brazil (YouTube)
Week 3: at Giants on Sunday Night Football
Week 5: at Jaguars on Monday Night Football
Week 6: vs. Lions on Sunday Night Football
Week 8: vs. Commanders on Monday Night Football
Bleacher Report noted the Chiefs will play seven prime-time games, which is another NFL record. The other two are a Sunday Night Football game against the Texans on Dec. 7 and the Christmas Day matchup against the Broncos on Amazon Prime.
