Rex Hudler had great call of funny White Sox blooper that aided Royals victory
The Royals have been living right over the past three weeks. The White Sox, well, they’ve had their troubles for a few years now.
And the intersection of those two vibes came in the ninth inning of the Royals’ 4-3 win on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium.
The White Sox led 3-2 and called on Cam Booser to close out the game. He walked Mark Canha to open the ninth inning, but then he got Drew Waters to hit a pop-up on the infield.
The ball hung in the air for nearly 7 seconds as Chicago second baseman Chase Meidroth camped under it. But Medroth missed the ball, which went off his glove and then his head.
Michael A. Taylor, the former Royals outfielder, got to the ball and had plenty of time to throw out Canha at second. Instead, Taylor’s throw was wild.
“Oh boy, what is going on here in Kansas City?” asked White Sox announcer John Schriffen.
On FanDuel Sports Kansas City, Rex Hudler had a great call of the fortuitous play (from the Royals’ perspective).
“Oh man, off the glove and off the dome,” Hudler said. “He’s saying, oh man, what happened? It’s a moment that he’ll never forget. And that’ll be on the bloopers everywhere.”
The White Sox also turned a potential game-ending double play into no outs and the Royals later walked away with the win.
“I just missed it,” Meidroth said on the MLB.com website. “It’s a ball that’s got to be caught. “It’s a tough (game). It’s one that’s got to be won.”
This wasn’t even the worst way the White Sox have lost a game this season. Last month, Mike Tauchman was injured rounding third base as he was poised to score a game-tying run with two outs in the ninth. Instead, he was tagged out to end the game.
