Chiefs’ Travis Kelce believes Josh Simmons’ knee injury won’t be an issue

During his 13 seasons with the Eagles, center Jason Kelce made seven Pro Bowls and was a six-time All-Pro.

Now an analyst with ESPN, Kelce is a good judge of offensive lineman. And Kelce thinks the Chiefs got a great one in Josh Simmons, the former Ohio State star who was KC’s first-round pick in last week’s NFL Draft.

“This is one of the guys I actually watched a little bit,” Kelce said on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. “I absolutely love this guy on tape. The way he moves reminds me a lot of some high-level players, the way he bends, plays with his (butt) low to the ground, his arms only say 33 (inches), but it feels like he’s got much bigger length than that. He is big, he’s strong, he moves people. He’s an outstanding pass blocker. ...

“I really think if Josh Simmons doesn’t tear his patella tendon, then he’s the first tackle off the board most likely. The fact that the Chiefs got him at 32 could be an unbelievable value if he comes back from the knee injury.”

Simmons’ left knee was injured last season while with the Buckeyes and that’s why some pundits believe he dropped in the NFL Draft.

After Kelce shared his analysis of Simmons, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce clapped and praised general manager Brett Veach.

“Attaboy Veach,” Travis Kelce said. “That’s what I’m talking about, Veach.”

Jason Kelce cautioned that Simmons must show he’s fully healthy before knowing if he’ll be able to help the Chiefs.

Travis Kelce disagreed.

“No. I don’t think we’ll have to wait and see,” he said. “I think it’s signed, sealed, delivered. This guy’s gonna be a Hall of Famer.”

Jason Kelce responded: “If he comes back from the knee, there’s a chance.”

“If?” Travis Kelce asked incredulously. “Something tells me he’s already there.”

Chiefs fans certainly hope that’s the case. You can listen to the Kelce brothers talk about Simmons here.
