The Royals took three of four games from the Twins last week at Kauffman Stadium, but Minnesota first baseman Ty France gave Kansas City fits.

France batted .400 (6 for 14) with a walk, two doubles and two home runs. He didn’t strike out and had a 1.000 slugging percentage. That strong play helped him win the American League Player of the Week award.

France was on the MLB Network show “Intentional Talk” on Monday and said he had won the award one other time. In his mind, there was a connection between the awards.

“Honestly, it’s kind of funny,” France quipped. “Last time I won Player of the Week is when we played Kansas City as well. So I guess I just see the ball well there and play well against them.

“So we need to play them more often.”

France has a career .410 batting average in 31 games against the Royals. That includes 10 doubles, seven home runs and 23 RBIs. He’s walked more often than struck out (13 to 12) and has a 1.172 OPS.

So, yeah, you can understand why France likes facing the Royals.
