Royals broadcaster Rex Hudler wears his heart on his sleeve when calling games, and his enthusiasm is evident to anyone who has tuned to FanDuel Sports Kansas City.

When a Royals player makes solid contact, Hudler’s first reaction sometimes is to make an “exclamatory noise” rather than say anything.

But Hudler, who played 13 years in Major League Baseball, also knows the game well. During the Royals’ 4-1 loss to the Yankees on Monday night, he predicted shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. would hit a home run seconds before it happened.

“Right here. It’s coming,” Hudler said.

Witt swung and crushed a pitch from Carlos Carrasco as Ryan Lefebvre made the call: “Lined left field. Is that a cookie? Gone!”

“Go ball! Yes it is!” Hudler said. “There it is. Junior lined him up. That’s his second on the season. Solo shot That’s a tremendous AB.”

It was a great at-bat from Witt, who won a 10-pitch battle with Carrasco, but it was a good call from Hudler, too.

The Major League Baseball Instagram account shared video of the cool moment (scroll to the right in this post).
