For Pete's Sake

Florida’s title means KC Roos can lay claim to being nation’s top team (sort of)

One day in the future, the Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team will finally play in the NCAA Tournament.

For now, the Roos will have to be content knowing they are better than the Florida Gators, who won the national championship Monday.

Well ... sort of.

It requires playing the “who beat whom” game. That is, taking a closer look at the losses for each team during this season, which I hope is obvious to everyone that this is just a fun exercise.

With an assist to CBS Sports, which outlined much of this, here’s how we get to the Roos being college basketball’s best team this past season.

  • Florida lost to Missouri 83-82 on Jan. 14
  • Missouri lost to Memphis 83-75 on Nov. 4
  • Memphis lost to Temple 88-81 on Jan. 16
  • Temple lost to Tulsa 80-74 on Feb. 12
  • Tulsa lost to Georgia State 74-71 on Jan. 27
  • Georgia State lost to Coastal Carolina 80-74 on Feb. 26
  • Coastal Carolina lost to Alabama A&M 77-70 on Nov. 23
  • Alabama A&M lost to Texas Southern 82-78 (OT) on Jan. 25
  • Texas Southern lost to Arkansas-Pine Bluff 69-68 on Feb. 24
  • Arkansas-Pine Bluff lost to Mississippi Valley State 79-76 on Feb. 1
  • Mississippi Valley State lost to Kansas State 74-56 on Nov. 19
  • Kansas State lost to Wichita State 84-65 on Dec. 21
  • Wichita State lost to Kansas City 75-64 on Dec. 17

See? Just 13 easy steps to show the Roos were better than Florida. So if you’re an alum, wear that Kansas City gear with pride.

And if you’re a Gators fan, remember this is just for fun.
