This transaction was expected, but that didn’t make it easier for Royals fans.

The Royals on Monday assigned first baseman Jac Caglianone to minor-league camp, along with shortstop Cam Devanney and outfielders Gavin Cross and John Rave.

Caglianone, who was the Royals’ first-round pick in last year’s Major League Baseball draft, quickly became a fan favorite with his power. He batted .529 with three home runs and three doubles, five walks and just three strikeouts in 13 Cactus League games.

Caglianone, 22, was a long shot to break camp with the Royals because he’s not on the 40-man roster and was playing college ball just a year ago.

But the fact that he stayed in big-league camp until just 10 days before opening day was a remarkable feat.

Fans were still bummed that he was reassigned to minor-league camp. Here is a bit of what they shared on X.
