This will go down as one of the best free agent signings in Chiefs history.

Ahead of the 2021 season, the Chiefs signed guard Joe Thuney, and he helped the Chiefs win a pair of Super Bowl championships while being named an All-Pro twice.

But his time in Kansas City is about over as the Chiefs have a deal in place to send Thuney to the Chicago Bears for a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft (per ESPN’s Adam Schefter).

That move will open up some much-needed salary-cap space for the Chiefs, but the team will also lose one of its best offensive linemen.

Here is what some Chiefs fans were saying Wednesday morning on Reddit and X.

“Wish Joe the best. He’s a champion,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “But my man Brett. Wow. You couldn’t have 2 highly paid guards. You choose the young one.”

Another wrote: “I’ll trust the process, but this one seems odd. I guess that’s what the market was. Kingsley Sumataia you are a guard!”

A fan on Reddit shared this: “Can’t say I understand this move huh”

Another wrote: “Better than I expected for someone in his 30s with one year left in his contract. I was expecting a fifth. Well played. If you disagree, take the blinders off. This is a good deal.”

“I hate not getting immediate draft value or even multiple picks,” another wrote, “but I understand that the salary cap savings and the Bears’ leverage in this trade. I will reserve full judgment until I see how that money, the pick, and the LG spot are used.”
