Left fielder Adam Duvall reportedly turned down offer from Royals over amount of money
Outfielder Adam Duvall is coming off a dreadful 2024 season in which he batted .182 with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs in 104 games with the Atlanta Braves.
Duvall, who will turn 36 this summer, is a former All-Star and Gold Glove Award winner, and he reportedly drew interest from the Royals.
But as the New York Post’s Joel Sherman reported Tuesday, Duvall declined an offer from the Royals because of money.
Sherman’s story says the Royals offered a $1 million base contract that included an opportunity to make $1 million in performance bonuses.
“But he turned it down and has informed teams that if he is not guaranteed at least $3 million, he is going to retire,” Sherman wrote.
Duvall, who is a right-handed batter, had a meager .569 OPS a year ago. But against left-handed pitchers, his OPS jumped to .856.
The Royals likely viewed Duvall as a platoon option in left field with either MJ Melendez and Michael Massey or as a late-game pinch-hitting candidate.
