NFL player who grew up in Kansas City is victim of alleged extortion attempt
Rachaad White’s football journey is one of the cooler stories in the NFL.
Although he was an all-star receiver and running back at Center High School in Kansas City, White was a zero-star recruit. So White went to Division II Nebraska-Kearney, then transferred to Mt. San Antonio Community College before going to Arizona State.
White was then picked in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. Through three NFL seasons, White has rushed for 2,084 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also has 1,232 receiving yards and 11 touchdown catches.
Those are great stats for a KC kid who didn’t have a Division I offer out of high school.
But White has been in the news for another reason this week. ESPN’s Jenna Laine reported that White hired attorneys TJ Grimaldi and Michelle Gervais after at extortion attempt.
Those attorneys released a statement that was shared by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on X.
“The FBI and other appropriate authorities are currently looking into an extortion attempt against Rachaad White,” the attorneys said. “Illegal and defamatory threats and demands against Rachaad and his family will be met with zero tolerance. We will continue to exercise all legal avenues to protect Rachaad’s rights as a victim of extortion.”
That’s all that has been said about the incidence, so what that extortion attempt looks like or is about is not known at this time.
