Big changes are coming soon to the NFL. Just like it happens each year.

Some players will be changing teams when NFL free agency begins next month. On March 10, the legal tampering period will begin and free agency opens at 3 p.m. on March 12.

NFL Network host Gregg Rosenthal ranked the top 101 free agents, and seven Chiefs are on the list. That includes six Chiefs among the top 61. Here is what Rosenthal wrote about all seven.

No. 2: Guard Trey Smith

“The Chiefs hit the jackpot when they drafted Smith and center Creed Humphrey in 2021,” Rosenthal wrote. “Humphrey already got paid; can Kansas City afford to keep both?”

No. 18: Linebacker Nick Bolton

Rosenthal wrote: “Three-down linebackers are hard to find, and Bolton rarely took a snap off as the leader of Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. Like the running back position, off-ball linebackers who can stay on the field could be recovering some market value.”

No. 26: Safety Justin Reid

“Veteran safeties don’t often get paid in free agency, yet Reid has stabilized two defenses (Texans and Chiefs) during his seven-year career,” Rosenthal noted.

No. 43: Wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown

Rosenthal wrote: “Brown isn’t always a consistent pass catcher, but his speed and route running still travel. The lack of speed available in this market should help ‘Hollywood’ get another decent one-year deal.”

No. 56: Defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton

“A young, ornery D-lineman coming from a championship program, Wharton plays with an energy I’d want to get on my roster as a rotational interior player with upside,” Rosenthal wrote.

No. 61: Defensive end Charles Omenihu

“Omenihu has a suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy and a serious injury in his recent past,” Rosenthal noted, “although he was able to get back on the field for the Chiefs’ recent run to the Super Bowl.”

No. 92: Wide receiver Deandre Hopkins

Rosenthal wrote: “The lack of production and playing time with Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback, particularly down the stretch, is a huge red flag for Hopkins’ free agency value.”
