Tom Izzo oddly mentioned the Chiefs’ Super Bowl woes after Michigan State game
The Michigan State men’s basketball team beat its in-state rival on Friday night thanks to a big second-half performance in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Trailing by four at halftime, the Spartans dominated Michigan in the final 20 minutes and won 75-62.
What changed in the second half? Michigan State coach Tom Izzo explained in his postgame news conference.
“Threatened them. Went old school on them and threatened them at halftime,” Izzo said. “Turnovers, I give them credit for some of them, I give us blame for a lot of them. We just talked, we were trying to go too fast. We wanted to be quick, but don’t hurry, as the saying goes. And we went quick and did hurry, and we turned the ball over.”
Oddly, Izzo then mentioned the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss. Two interceptions late in the first half hurt the Chiefs as the Eagles won 40-22.
“It was turnovers that did lead to touchdowns,” Izzo said. “Those are bad turnovers. Just ask the Kansas City Chiefs. Those don’t work in sports.”
