‘Hollywood’ Brown, who will be a free agent, says he found joy in football again with Chiefs
The Chiefs’ season ended just 10 days ago, but the front office won’t be getting a rest anytime soon.
Next week is the NFL Combine, and free agency begins on March 12. The Chiefs have 20 players who will become free agents. That includes linebacker Nick Bolton, guard Trey Smith, safety Justin Reid, wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, edge rusher Charles Omenihu, defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton and Mike Pennel and Derrick Nnadi.
The Chiefs obviously can’t bring each of those players back, even if they wanted to, because many are due a big pay raise. It’s also not known how many want to return to the Chiefs.
But Brown could be one of them based on what he wrote in a TikTok post. He was injured on the first offensive snap of a preseason game but returned to play in the final two regular-season games (nine receptions for 91 yards).
In the playoffs, Brown had five receptions for 50 yards.
Those are modest numbers, but this past year meant a lot to Brown, who joined the NFL in 2019.
“I tell ppl this is my favorite year since being in the NFL,” Brown wrote on TikTok, “and not just from playing in the superbowl but for the first time being able to Practice healthy and have fun again... Therapy session.. enjoy.”
That message was accompanied by a nearly five-minute video of highlights from training camp.
The Chiefs likely would bring back Brown if the two sides can agree on a contract.
