Royals captain Salvador Perez shares a message of support for Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes
Super Bowl LIX was over and the Chiefs’ three-peat dreams had been dashed against the rocks when quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke to the media.
Mahomes took the blame for the loss, then headed back to the Chiefs’ locker room and later got a hug from Tammy Reid, the wife of coach Andy Reid.
Another postgame task for Mahomes: The Chiefs quarterback shared a message for Chiefs fans, once again putting the 40-22 defeat to the Eagles on his shoulders.
“Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom,” Mahomes wrote on X.
“I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it.
“Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me.
“We will be back.”
That message was viewed more than 8 million times, and more than 14,000 people responded to Mahomes. Some of the replies were the usual stupid snark on social media from people who thrive on being negative.
But most of the responses were positive and sought to lift up Mahomes, the two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP.
That included a message from a World Series MVP: Royals catcher Salvador Perez. Salvy needed just four words to share a sentiment that Chiefs fans undoubtedly feel.
“You the best brother,” Perez wrote with two fire emojis.
That’s a cool thing to see between two Kansas City champions.
