Patrick Mahomes is on cusp of moving into top 3 in multiple career NFL playoff records
Three quarterbacks who will play this weekend in the AFC postseason are among the most prodigious rushers in NFL playoff history.
Associated Press writer Josh Dubow said Buffalo’s Josh Allen (609 yards) has rushed for the most yards of any quarterback in NFL playoff history. No. 2 on the list is Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson (602 yards).
Former 49ers star Steve Young is third (594 yards), followed by the Steelers’ Russell Wilson (533 yards) and the Chiefs’ ‘Patrick Mahomes (524 yards).
If things go well for Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs, it’s possible he could ascend to No. 1 on that list. But he needs just 71 rushing yards to move into the top three in that category.
Mahomes also can move into the top three on these other career playoff lists.
Passing touchdowns
Mahomes has thrown 41 touchdown passes in his postseason career, the fifth-most in NFL history. Mahomes can move to No. 2 with four touchdown passes Saturday or it could happen later in the postseason if the Chiefs advance.
Here are the top five.
1. Tom Brady, 88
2t. Joe Montana, 45
2t. Aaron Rodgers, 45
4. Brett Favre, 44
5. Mahomes, 41
Passing yards
Mahomes has 5,135 career passing yards in the playoffs, which is the eighth-most in NFL history.
Here’s who is ahead of him.
- Tom Brady, 13,400
- Peyton Manning, 7,339
- Ben Roethlisberger, 5,972
- Aaron Rodgers, 5,894
- Brett Favre, 5,855
- Joe Montana, 5,772
- Drew Brees, 5,366
With 232 yards passing on Saturday, Mahomes would move past Brees on the career list. And, if the Chiefs make a deep run, Mahomes could move to third on the all-time list if he gets at least 838 yards passing in the playoffs.
