For the first time since the 2019 season, Dolphins star Tyreek Hill didn’t reach the 1,000-yard mark in receiving yards.

And for the first time since entering the league with the Chiefs in 2016, Hill won’t be in the postseason.

Following the 2021 season, Hill was traded by the Chiefs to the Dolphins. Yahoo Sports said, “Hill is under contract for the next two seasons, with a cap number of $27.7 million in 2025 and $51.9 million in 2026 per OverTheCap.”

Those cap numbers are worth noting because Hill indicated Sunday he wants to leave the Dolphins, who finished with an 8-9 record.

“There are a lot of things that I need to reassess about my career,” Hill told reporters following Miami’s game. “Just see what I need to do to continue to get better as a player so I can continue to like reach that 1,000-yard mark. It is what it is.

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs. For me, I’ve just got to do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or that’s wherever the case may be, I’m gonna open that door for myself.

“I’m opening the door. I’m out, bruh. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”

A reporter asked if he’s thinking about leaving the Dolphins. Hill paused before saying, “Yes.”

A short while later, Hill shared a message for Dolphins fans: “Love fin nation blessing yall opened doors for the Hill family forever nothing ,but respect and love”

Back in KC?

Speculation began almost immediately of where Hill could go if he left the Dolphins.

Some Chiefs fans said they’d welcome Hill back in Kansas City, but his contract at this point would make that virtually impossible. Others say the Chiefs are fine without him. Here’s a very small sample of what was being said on social media.
