Bengals fans were in full meltdown mode during Chiefs’ loss to the Broncos
After the Bengals edged the Steelers 19-17 on Saturday night, Cincinnati coach Zach Taylor told reporters: “They’re not going to want us in this tournament, I promise you.”
The tournament would be the NFL playoffs, and while it’s unlikely anyone was overly concerned about the 9-8 Bengals, it didn’t matter anyway. They didn’t make the postseason.
Cincinnati won its final five regular-season games but needed help Sunday to make the playoffs. The Bengals needed to have the Dolphins lose to the Jets and see the Chiefs defeat the Broncos.
The latter wasn’t close to happening.
The Chiefs rested a bunch of starters, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and defensive lineman Chris Jones, on Sunday. Denver jumped to an early two-touchdown lead and downed Kansas City 38-0 at Empower Field at Mile High.
“Cincinnati just ran out of weeks,” CBS Sports Jim Nantz said during the broadcast. “They got hot too late.”
Tony Romo responded: “You’re right.”
Many Bengals fans, however, were certain the Chiefs tanked to stick it to Cincinnati or because KC was afraid to face a team it has defeated three straight times.
Here is part of what those Bengals fans were saying on X (not including those who used curse words when discussing the Chiefs).
