Chiefs coach Andy Reid won’t play quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Sunday’s regular-season finale at Denver, which means he’ll have more than three weeks of rest before the NFL playoffs.

Although there is concern in some circles about Mahomes and the Chiefs being rusty when the AFC Divisional Round begins, the latest column from The Star’s Sam McDowell should put your mind at rest.

And many Chiefs fans think the release of the Pro Bowl rosters on Thursday should be a good sign. That may sound odd, because Mahomes was left out of the Pro Bowl, but many see that as serving to motivate him.

“Petty Pat” was widely shared on social media after the Pro Bowl teams were released, a reference to Mahomes’ penchant for finding inspiration when feeling he’s been overlooked.

Fans also took note of the response from Mahomes’ personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe.

It was simply one word: “Good.”

That, too, has fans hoping that Mahomes will be motivated in the playoffs to show the NFL what he can do.

Here is a bit of what those fans were saying in response to Stroupe’s post on social media.
