Patrick Mahomes broke Peyton Manning’s NFL record during Chiefs’ Christmas Day game
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes set another NFL record on Wednesday, and at this point in his sterling career that may not always seem like a big deal.
But this one is different for a reason that might not be immediately obvious.
Mahomes’ third touchdown pass during the Chiefs’ Christmas Day game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh broke a tie for the most TDs thrown in a quarterback’s first eight seasons.
The record-breaker came on a 12-yard pass to tight end Travis Kelce.
That’s 245 passing touchdowns in Mahomes’ first eight seasons, as the Netflix broadcast noted: one more than Peyton Manning (244) and four more than Dan Marino (241).
Here’s the thing: Mahomes played in just one game during his rookie season.
By comparison, Marino played in 11 games during his rookie season, while Manning started all 16 games in his first year in the league.
