Rookie Xavier Worthy paid homage to Patrick Mahomes ahead of Chiefs-Texans game
Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy was a star at the University of Texas.
But Worthy arrived at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday wearing another the jersey of another school in the Lone Star State: Texas Tech.
It wasn’t just any Red Raiders jersey. It was the No. 5 jersey that quarterback Patrick Mahomes wore when he played for Texas Tech.
The jersey ($140) from Mahomes’ sports apparel collection for Adidas was a nice nod to Worthy’s superstar teammate.
Worthy apparently heard it from Longhorns fans, though, because he wrote on Instagram: “I was just repping QB1 yall know what is today” with five 100 emojis.
Most of the players arrived at the stadium suited up against below-freezing temperatures. None looked as cold as wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was swaddled in a duck down-insulated, nylon “Space Coat” ($770) from Seventh luxury brand. The coach is known for its iconic “space hood,” with a round silhouette like an astronaut’s helmet.
And Hopkins had that hood pulled tight.
“Poor DeAndre he comes from both Arizona and Houston where it’s not freezing cold snowing ever LOL. he’s used to hot weather,” noted one fan responding to a post on the Chiefs’ X account.
Hollywood Brown won the day in a high-fashion aviator jacket made in Italy ($1,589) from luxury label Casablanca. It was trimmed in bright blue shearling.
Defensive end Charles Omenihu also stayed warm in high style in a highly detailed nylon bomber jacket with a huge faux fur collar. Runway ready.
Mahomes looked like he just got off the slopes in St. Moritz in a snowy white parka.
Tight end Travis Kelce didn’t sacrifice style in the freezing temperatures.
The Style By Kelce account said he was wearing a Marni Oat Shaggy Jacket with a detachable hood ($1,595), Louis Vuitton/ Timberland Ankle Boots ($2,850) and a Louis Vuitton/Nigro LV Made Stripe Flat Cap ($760).
Did the cold bother defensive lineman Chris Jones? Not in the slightest. He looked sharp in a light coat.
Creed Humphrey also shunned a heavy coat and represented the team in a velour FOCO NFL team logo track suit jacket ($75-$84, Amazon) — zipped all the way up.
JuJu Smith-Schuster gave a lesson in college chic in sunny gold-colored Arrow-Wood Varsity Knit Sweater ($178) with chenille embroidered patches inspired “by the mid-1900s athletic Ivy League wardrobe.”
We give that an A+.
