Brett Veach shares insights into Chiefs’ attempt to trade for Marshon Lattimore
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach is fully aware of the historical significance of this season for Kansas City.
No team in NFL history has won three straight Super Bowl championships, but the Chiefs have a shot to do that. It’s why he made two deals ahead of the NFL trade deadline, acquiring receiver DeAndre Hopkins and defensive lineman Joshua Uche.
While on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Veach said he wasn’t content with making just those two trades. But he wasn’t going to mortgage the future in an attempt to win a Super Bowl three-peat.
“The more difficult thing is just the assets required to get these players, or the assets needed to acquire these players is a difficult part for us, just because you have one eye on the future and one eye on the current season,” Veach said. “But we try to be aggressive, and I would say this year, obviously, knowing what’s at stake, we’ve tried to kick that into gear.”
Veach said the Chiefs were in active discussions with the Saints to acquire cornerback Marshon Lattimore ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they were outbid by the Commanders.
Washington traded three 2025 NFL Draft picks to the Saints (third-, fourth- and sixth-round choices) for Lattimore and the Commanders’ fifth-round pick.
The Chiefs likely would have had Lattimore take over for cornerback Jaylen Watson, who is on injured reserve.
“We’re able to add Hopkins, we’re able to add Uche and we had conversations with New Orleans about Lattimore, and Washington stepped up to the plate and a three and a four,” Veach said. “That’s a lot, especially for a team that in the Chiefs that are gonna need those picks next year.
“But you know, we were certainly in those conversations too. So we’re gonna be as aggressive as we can, but also try to be as responsible as we can.”
Here is Veach talking about the Chiefs’ attempted trade for Lattimore.
