Here are Chiefs and Broncos radio calls of the game-winning blocked field goal
There are no guarantees in life, but when it comes to sports, you can be assured that a bonkers ending to a game means there likely is a crazy win probability chart, too.
Such was the case with the Chiefs’ 16-14 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Denver lined up for a 35-yard field goal attempt with 1 second left on the clock. Things looked bleak for the Chiefs until linebacker Leo Chenal played hero by blocking the kick.
Check out the win probability chart.
It also should be no surprise that the radio calls from the broadcast teams were vastly different.
The Broncos’ Dave Logan and Rick Lewis were slightly stunned and very disappointed by what had occurred.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Logan told listeners. “I really am at a loss for words. Thirty-five-yard field goal blocked with 1 second to go, and Kansas City is going to get out of here with the 16-14 win over the Broncos.”
Lewis added: “Hearts broken in Broncos Country, no doubt. Broncos had it all set up for a chip shot field goal. Somebody in the interior of that Chiefs line blocked that. They got good penetration.
“(Patrick) Mahomes running around the field without a helmet. You know what? If I played for Kansas City, I would be too, because there’s no way you thought that this was going to be anything but a loss.”
X user Clay Wendler shared the audio.
Mitch Holthus, the voice of the Chiefs, had an epic call as Wil Lutz’s attempt was blocked.
“Lutz’s kick is blocked! It’s blocked! It’s blocked! The Chiefs block the kick!” Holthus said. “They’re going to stay undefeated. The Kansas City Chiefs blocked a 35-yard field goal attempt. Kan-sas City wins this game on a blocked field goal!”
Here is that call, again via Wendler.
