Chiefs fans heap praise on defense for that huge goal-line stand against Raiders

The Chiefs defense came up big in a clutch situation on Sunday.

The Chiefs had a terrible third quarter on Sunday in their game against the Raiders in Las Vegas.

There were six penalties called on the Chiefs in that period alone, and they had the ball deep in their own territory when disaster struck. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was hit as he threw the ball and Tre’von Moehrig intercepted the pass.

Moehrig returned the ball to the Chiefs’ 3-yard line. The Chiefs’ 17-13 lead was in peril. But the Chiefs defense put together an incredible stand. Here is how it went down.

First down: The Raiders’ Alexander Mattison rushed 2 yards to the Chiefs’ 1-yard line and was stopped by George Karlaftis and Drue Tranquill.

Second down: Mattison was stuffed for no gain by Karlaftis and Derrick Nnadi.

Third down: Mattison lost 2 yards after being taken down by Tranquill and Nick Bolton.

Fourth down: Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew was sacked for a 5-yard loss by Karlaftis and Tershawn Wharton.

Here is the entire four-down sequence and the radio call from the Chiefs’ radio crew of Mitch Holthus and Danan Hughes (via Red Tribe Cinema on X).

The Chiefs then drove 87 yards in 19 plays and kicked a field goal to go up by seven points. The Raiders lost a fumble on their next possession and the Chiefs got a touchdown to go up by two touchdowns. The final score was 27-20.

Chiefs fans on X were blown away by the defensive stand. Here is what they were saying.
