Patrick Mahomes has special motivation to beat Raiders, but it’s not the Muppet

It’s Raiders Week for the Chiefs, and Hi-Ho, Kermit the Frog has entered the chat.

Back in training camp, a video went viral of Raiders rookie Trey Taylor playing with a Kermit doll dressed as Mahomes. A fan had brought it during an autograph session, ESPN reported, and Taylor put the Muppet on his hand and had a laugh.

That video immediately went viral and it has been shared more than a few times this week as the Chiefs prepare to travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.

During his weekly conversation on 96.5 The Fan, Mahomes was asked how he became aware of the video in late July.

“I think I just saw it after I finished practice or something in training camp,” Mahomes said. ”It was one of those training camp long days, and it came across my timeline on Twitter. But that was the first time I saw it.”

That video was widely shared by fans. Was Mahomes inundated with text messages of the video from friends and teammates?

“Honestly, not a lot of people sent it to me,” Mahomes said. “I think everybody knows how I am, and they didn’t want to bring that to my attention. They wanted me to focus on what I needed to focus on that day.”

One Chiefs player took special note of the video and is looking forward to facing the Raiders. Mahomes, however, doesn’t seem bothered by it.

Mahomes was asked if that video was stored as motivation and what he does when a player on another team disrespects him.

That Kermit video is less motivating than the memory of the humbling 20-14 loss to the Raiders on Christmas Day at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. That’s the last time the Chiefs have lost a game.

“I think honestly if you’re not excited to play this game this week, especially how they beat us this last time, then you’re not in the right sport,” Mahomes said. “So it’s not like it takes it over the top or does anything like that. I think I’m just focused on playing a team that really got after us the last time we played them.”
