Chiefs sent box of swag to third-grader in Florida whose class ‘drafted’ NFL teams
Mary Crippen’s X biography notes she is “that football teacher,” and if you’re on social media, you might have seen some of her videos.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Crippen’s third-grade class in Miami-Dade County drafted NFL teams to root for and hopefully further the kids’ education.
“We’re excited to start learning about our teams and tracking them throughout the season,” Crippen wrote on X. “The students were eager to dive into their research, so after the draft, we grabbed our computers and began exploring our teams, starting with their locations. I introduced them to Google Maps — it’s a work in progress, but they’re getting the hang of it. Their first task is to create their team helmets, which will hang in the classroom until February. While all 32 teams might not be represented, each will be displayed and discussed.”
Here is a good example of how Crippen used football to teach math.
Some NFL teams sent care packages to the entire class and the student who had selected them in their draft. Crippen has shared videos of the goodies on her TikTok.
One of the latest videos involves the Chiefs.
A kid named Joaquin drafted the Chiefs and the team sent him a sweet care package. Crippen’s video shows the excitement in the classroom and it began with her correcting the students: “Patrick Mahomes is not a robot.”
Each student received a Chiefs “Red Wednesday” Super Bowl championship flag, a Chiefs pennant, eye-black tattoos, friendship bracelets, pens and stickers.
Joaquin also got a folder with photos of Kelce and Mahomes, a shirt, a lanyard, a headband, a suitcase tag, a cap, a football, a beanie and a Nick Bolton jersey.
The other great part of this video is when Crippen told the students: “Stop meowing! What’s up with that?”
