Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes pays homage to KC Monarchs with pregame fashion look
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has often embraced history, even with what he is wearing.
Before Super Bowl LVII, Mahomes wore a T-shirt that honored the late Len Dawson, the Hall of Fame Chiefs quarterback.
On Monday night, Mahomes arrived at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium wearing a Kansas City Monarchs shirt/hoodie.
Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, loved the look.
“Luv that our QB continues to embrace the winning legacy of the KC Monarchs as the @NLBMuseumKC celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Monarchs winning the inaugural Negro League World Series in 1924!” Kendrick wrote on X. “Plus, that Monarchs hoodie is straight (fire emoji).”
Fans loved that look, too.
Some of Mahomes’ teammates paid tribute to the Royals, who played in Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Yankees.
The players, like the rest of us, have officially entered that challenging early fall season. Jacket or no jacket? Short sleeves? Long sleeves?
Or no sleeves at all? Chiefs guard Trey Smith wore a tie ... and a shirt without sleeves. It was a great look.
On the flip side, some of his teammates pulled jackets out of their closets.
Safety Justin Reid wore a green Dolce & Gabbana bomber jacket made in Italy of a techno fabric with a round collar and lots of pockets. ($1,363, yoox.com).
Offensive tackle Wanya Morris snuggled up in a cropped Newbury Jacquard jacket by Fashion Nova ($50, fashionnova.com).
Even as temperatures cool, players are still playing a strong graphic T-shirt game.
Xavier Worthy was paying tribute to injured teammate Rashee Rice in a graphic Rashee Rice KC Dreams shirt ($24.95, agencyfrog.com.)
Running back Kareem Hunt arrived in a Heron Law graphic tee made in Italy with red flames on the front. ($267, grailed.com)
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce wore shorts and carried an extra pair of sneakers.
