Chiefs’ ‘World’s Largest Tailgate’ is returning. Here is how fans can take part
As long as the Chiefs win Super Bowls, they will play in the NFL Kickoff Game. And as long as they’re in the NFL Kickoff Game, the Chiefs will have a really big tailgate before that contest.
Ahead of the Chiefs’ Sept. 5 game against the Baltimore Ravens at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, the team will bring back it’s “World’s Largest Tailgate” event.
This year’s pregame festivities, which begin at 5 p.m. in the Truman Sports Complex, will include “Tailgate Games.” Here is the description of four of those games from the Chiefs:
- The Sauce Relay: Participants negotiate an obstacle course while carrying containers of BBQ sauce.
- The 2-Minute Drill: People will wear helmets with blacked-out visors and attempt to complete as many passes into cardboard cutouts as possible in two minutes.
- Coach’s Cheeseburger Challenge: In honor of coach Andy Reid’s favorite food, participants will put together cheeseburgers but they won’t use their own hands. Each will have a partner behind them using their hands to make the burgers. Oh, and that person will be blindfolded.
- Chiefs Cup: This is a special flip cup competition but the cups will be progressively larger throughout the game. Instead of consuming a drink, participants will dump confetti on their head before flipping the cup.
Actor Rob Riggle, one of the “Big Slick” participants, and broadcaster Hayley Lewis will be co-hosts of the tailgate show. “Saturday Night Live” star Heidi Gardner, comedian Desi Banks and former Chiefs star Dante Hall will take part in the event.
Fans should go to www.ChiefsLive.com and leave their name and an email address to reserve a “free virtual seat” for the tailgate.
The Chiefs said there also will be a “60-minute challenge that will offer engagement opportunities for at-home viewers, as well as pre-recorded segments with current Chiefs players.”
