Left fielder MJ Melendez was the 11th player in Royals history to hit a grand slam in the Sonic Slam inning when he belted the homer in June at Dodger Stadium.

Mendy King of Olathe was at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night to pick up her $25,000 check, courtesy of Melendez’s big fly in the Sonic Slam inning.

About 90 minutes later, Melendez again won King a prize.

In the sixth inning of the Royals’ 3-0 win over the Angels, Melendez hit another homer — this one a solo shot — and triggered a special prize. Melendez’s home run hit the foul pole in right field.

During the All-Star break, the Royals added Chick-fil-A advertising to the foul poles at Kauffman Stadium. When a Royals player hits a dinger off the “Fowl Pole,” everyone at the game that night wins a chicken sandwich.

That meant King and the other 13,000 people at the game were winners on Wednesday.
