Chiefs’ Chris Jones had a funny reason for trying a field goal at training camp
Like his teammates and everyone else who took part in Tuesday’s SiriusXM Town Hall from Chiefs training camp, defensive tackle Chris Jones talked about the team’s quest for the first Super Bowl three-peat.
Jones, 30, is in his ninth season with the Chiefs and he particularly enjoyed training camp after missing last year’s due to a contract holdout.
“I was just telling (coach) Andy Reid, this was my favorite training camp out of all of them,” Jones quipped. “He told me I wouldn’t practice a week.”
That drew laughter from the small crowd of Chiefs fans at Missouri Western.
Jones really did miss much of camp. He has been dealing with a shoulder injury, but earlier on Tuesday in St. Joe, Jones was on the practice field ... where he attempted a field goal. It’s safe to say kicker Harrison Butker’s job is safe.
Jones explained why he tried the field goal, which he described as “one and done.”
“I gotta keep the body loose,” Jones said. “I haven’t practiced in like two weeks, and gotta stay in rhythm. You know, I’ve seen Butker out there kicking. I just figured it was the perfect time to work on my legs.”
